Victory in Christ
“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ as you read this article. May He give us understanding.”
2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place.
Here is a very important question: Is my kind of Christianity worth sending to the non-Christian world? What if we are powerless to overcome sin? The Christianity that Christ lived moment by moment is the only kind worth sending. We came to Christ for salvation; however, that was just the beginning. In every child of God there is the DNA of God to live the Christian life. DNA – carries genetic information. We were created in His image. – Genesis 1:26
Two essentials for this to work:
1. Complete surrender to the completed work of Christ – all by Grace.
Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, (9) not of works, lest anyone should boast. (You and I didn’t do anything!)
2. Complete faith to trust God to do what He says. (To have victory over sin.)
1 Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (GIVEN through Christ alone.)
Colossians 2:6 As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him, …(As and So – by FAITH)
Romans 5:10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
(His life lived in and through us.)
2 Corinthians 12:9 … "My grace is sufficient for you, ….Remember this verse and the (IS)
Grace is enough! Not only for victory over sin but also for victory over the power of sin!
2 Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
Rom 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, ….
Jesus lives to set us free from the power and penalty of sin. It is an outright gift! By faith we must let Him do it all.
Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.
Two conditions for the victorious life:
1. Receive salvation by faith and
2. By faith let go and let God do it all. Stop fighting the fight that God has already won.
Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
Romans chapter 6 is about having victory over the power of sin.
Rom 6:2 ... How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? (If we are crucified with Christ)
Romans 6:14 For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.
Roman 6:22 But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life.
Three questions every believer needs to ask:
1. Is my life a spiritual rollercoaster?
2. Do I find failure time and again in one particular area?
3. Do I lack dynamic spiritual power in my life?
1 Corinthians 2:4 And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power,
Ephesians 1:19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
John 7:37-39… Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. (38) He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart (innermost being) will flow rivers of living water." (39) But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; …. (on the day of Pentecost)
An uninterrupted, continuous and overflowing river is supposed to flow out of us.
Because of two great truths:
1. Colossians 1:26-27 the mystery which has been hidden from ages and from generations, but now has been revealed to His saints. (27) To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
2. Colossians 3:4 When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
My mind, body, heart, will, soul and spirit are not only His, but also part of Him.
Ephesians 5:30 For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.
1 Corinthians 6:15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ?
2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
Jesus does not want to be your helper; he wants to be your life!
John 8:36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
The victorious life is not about what we do for God, it is what God does for us.
Grace: What is the grace of God? Grace is the empowering presence of God enabling us to be who God created us to be. It is the power to walk the walk. Grace is liberation from performance (legalism) AND the power of Christ in us to do God’s will.
Philippians 2:13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.
Romans 5:20-21 Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, (21) so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The law said, “Do”; Grace says, “Done”.
There is only one resource for the Christian life: -- And that is Jesus Christ!
Three things about God’s grace we need to know:
1. Grace is all we need!
2. Grace is all we need!
3. Grace is all we need!
Remember the IS. 2 Corinthians 12:9… "My grace is sufficient for you, … Think about the call of Moses in Exodus 3.
Exodus 3:13-14 Then Moses said to God, "Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they say to me, 'What is His name?' what shall I say to them?" (14) And God said to Moses, "I AM WHO I AM." And He said, "Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' (Not I WAS; Not I WILL BE)
This is Who God is; the I AM; the NOW present LORD! I AM everything you want and need. I AM Who I AM, and you need Who I AM.
Faith: Trust God! Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
The secret of victory is praise, thanksgiving and worship. This builds relationship.
Feed daily on the word of God!
Walk in Christ’s victory!
The Glove Illustration:
A glove is made for a purpose – to be worn on a hand. Without a hand, it can do nothing. However, the glove can do all things the hand can do when a hand is in it. The hand in the glove is the glove’s only hope of glory and the glove’s only opportunity to become what it was created to be. By the grace of God, Christ is in us enabling us to be what God created us to be. Nothing is what a glove can do without a hand. Unlimited potential is what a glove can do with a hand in it. “Christ in you” is the hand in a glove.
… Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27
John 15:5 "I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
“Christ in us is our assurance of glory.” As we allow Christ to live His life in and through us, we will discover God’s purpose in creating us.
Let us go live the life of a world changer as Christ lives through us.
Prayer: “Jesus, I am righteous only because You made me righteous. “Jesus, I gladly give all of me to You. I want You to take over my life.” “Jesus, just as I completely trusted you for my salvation, so now by faith I completely trust you to live in and through me. Amen.”
For Coaches of the Significant life: Our goal is to help the coachee understand his/her life revolves around Jesus Christ and Him living His life through us. WITHOUT JESUS CHRIST, WE DO NOTHING! This thought consumed Paul and it should consume us. That very important question: Is my kind of Christianity worth sending to the non-Christian world? Yes, if Christ is living in and through us!
