“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ as you read this article. May He give us understanding.”

God created us to be a blessing! He is a blessing God. This is what He did in the beginning and it is what He does now.

  • Genesis 1:28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth."
  • Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

It stands to reason since we are made in the image of God that we should be a blessing

  • Genesis 12:2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.

When God set up the Levitical priesthood, He commanded the priest to bless the people.

  • Numbers 6:22-27 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying:  (23)  "Speak to Aaron and his sons, (the priests) saying, 'This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them:  (24)  "The LORD bless you and keep you;  (25)  The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you;  (26)  The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace." '  (27)  "So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them."
  • 2 Chronicles 30:27 Then the priests, the Levites, arose and blessed the people, and their voice was heard; and their prayer came up to His holy dwelling place, to heaven.

When we bless people in the name of the LORD, we put His name on them and this opens them to receive the blessings that come from God.

As New Testament believers, Christ has made us priests, and one of our anointed privileges is to be a blessing especially by speaking a blessing.

  • Revelation 1:5-6 …… To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood,  (6)  and has made us kings and priests to His God and Father, ……(Again in Revelation 5:9-10)

Look again at Genesis 12:2. If we get blessed then we should bless.

  • Genesis 12:2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.

First and foremost we should bless the Lord for all He has done and is doing for us. Let us be thankful and recognize God’s blessings upon us.

  • Psalms 103:1-2 Bless the LORD, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name!  (2)  Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits:

The problem with many Christians is they fail to see the blessings they DO have for looking at what they DO NOT have. The more we recognize the blessings of God in our life, the more we become grateful and the more sincere will be our words when we bless others. If we become a person who blesses others then we will be sought out. People desire to hear words expressing God’s willingness to bless them. When we do this from a sincere heart, we are placing His Name on them and they will be blessed.

The language of the Kingdom of God is to bless and not curse. Jesus makes this very plain. The Apostle Paul amplifies Jesus’ teaching.

  • Luke 6:27-28 But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,  (28)  bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you.
  • Romans 12:14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.

We live in a different Kingdom. Blessing people is one way we demonstrate it. Let us learn the art of blessing. We have been called to this!

  • 1 Peter 3:8-9 Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous;  (9)  not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.

Do you want to inherit a blessing? Then be a blessing! Isn’t God amazing!

Bless people in the name of the Lord.

  • Bless your children (A father’s blessing is extremely important!)
    • Bless your sons.
    • Bless your daughters.
  • Bless your spouse.
  • Bless your parents.
  • Bless your friends.
  • Bless your neighbors.
  • Bless those you disciple.
  • Bless our leaders.
  • Bless strangers as God directs. (If they allow it. Or silently without their knowledge.)
  • And, yes, bless those who curse you.

Live a Significant Life. Be a world changer. Learn the art of blessing!

For Coaches of the Significant Life: One of our objectives as a significant life coach is to bless our coachee. We do this at the beginning of each Session as we affirm them by telling them how valuable and important they are. The more this truth penetrates their spirit, the more they gain their identity in Christ. The more established this becomes in them the more capable they become at affirming (blessing) others. I believe one of the most powerful things we can do to bring change to this world is to bless people. Be a blessing.
