“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ as you read this article. May He give us understanding.”

If we are true disciples of Christ, how should we then live? The answer is given in the following verses:

  • Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."
  • Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness…….
  • Romans 14:17 for the kingdom of God is …..... righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

As followers of Christ we have entered the Kingdom of God. We have committed to a new way of life. Righteousness, Peace and Joy (RPJ) is the mark of a true disciple. When the followers of Christ walk in righteousness, peace and joy, we exhibit to the world the Kingdom of God working in us. The world without Christ is filled with sin, stress and fear. This is the darkness in which they live. They need a light to show them the way. Jesus said:

  • Matthew 5:14-16 You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden……. (16)  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

When our normal way of living displays RPJ, then we are light to those living in darkness. They will be drawn to what only Christ can do in and through us.

This is the life we should demonstrate to the world. This is how we should then live:

1.      R – Righteousness – Christ has set us free! Sin does not have the power over us it once had. We are free indeed.

a.       Romans 6:11-13 Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.  (12)  Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts.  (13)  And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.

b.      Colossians 1:13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love

c.       John 8:36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

The Apostle Paul makes it very clear in Romans 6 that the child of God has been set free from the power of sin. We are to consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God. Sin no longer has dominion over us. We can and should have victory over sin. We are to grow in grace and knowledge of Christ. The more we grow, the less we will sin. We are no longer just sinners; we are saints. Made holy. Sanctified by the blood of Christ. Therefore, let us live righteously before men. Let us put on the breastplate of righteousness. Let us do what is right no matter what it may cost us. Let us humbly walk with God asking for the grace to do what is right in all situations. This is how we should live. This is life in the Kingdom of God. When we live righteously we are light to a dark world.

2.      P – Peace – This world is filled with stress-causing situations. However, the child of God lives in the Kingdom of God which is a place of peace even in the midst of storms.

a.       Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

b.      John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

c.       Philippians 4:7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

d.      Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.

The best way to live in peace in all situations is to focus on the fact that God is in control no matter what the situation may look like at the moment. God only does good. Learn to live one day at a time. Trust God for your daily bread. Don’t worry about the future (Matthew 6:25-26). God carried you through today; be thankful. Life will stress you; the presence of God will bless you. Be still and know that He is God. God has your situation in hand. He’s got your back. Trust Him. His peace will guard your heart and mind and keep you from over reacting. His love is perfect toward you. God will see you through. This is how we should live. This is life in the Kingdom of God. When we walk in peace we are light to a dark world.

3.      J – Joy – When people are fearful they lose their joy. In the Kingdom of God we know our loving Father has promised to always be with us and provide for us.

a.       Deuteronomy 31:8 And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed."

b.      Isaiah 41:10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

c.       Isaiah 61:10 I will greatly rejoice in the LORD, My soul shall be joyful in my God…….

d.      Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

To help us keep our joy, two things are needed: 1.) We need to know God only does good! His thoughts are always toward us (Psalm 139:17-18). He has good plans for us (Jeremiah 29:11). We live in a fallen world where bad things happen. God has never promised we will not have trouble, but He has promised that we will not go through it alone. He will be with us and show us something good. 2.) We need an attitude of gratitude. Let us look at what we have and NOT at what we do not have. Choose to be thankful. Come into His presence with thanksgiving and enter His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him and bless His name. This is how we should live. This is life in the Kingdom of God. When we are joyful we are light to a dark world.

FOR COACHES OF THE SIGNIFICANT LIFE: One of our objectives as a significant life coach is to help our coachees be lights in a dark world. Walking in righteousness, living in peace and displaying joy will attract people to the Kingdom of God. When we do this we are living the Gospel of Christ; we are being true Disciples of Jesus Christ. He walked righteously, brought peace and gave joy. Let us exemplify His life to this world. Let RPJ prevail in us.
